Author: Greg Shuey

It is a common occurrence for students to have jobs while working toward graduating college. Many have realized with the consistent increase in college tuition, jobs are the only way to afford postsecondary educations.

Holding down a job while enrolled in college can be very stressful for a student. College departments that offer student jobs tend to have a better understanding of the academic demands that are placed on the students that they hire. Since many of the college departments only hire for part time help, it is not hard for them to work around their schedules. Other employers, that are not part of the college environment, may not be as willing to work around class schedules.

Finding student jobs on campus can be beneficial. Students, who are able to help run the campus, are more likely to adjust to college life.. Jobs on campus are a great way for students to meet other students and get to know their peers and professors. Campus jobs are usually offered in many areas like the bookstore, cafeteria, and several administrative offices.

At most universities nationwide, those working student jobs account for nearly 25% of the universities non-professional staffing. Staff members hold important positions that contribute to the overall success of the universities.

Despite all the stress and grief that employment can cause to some, seeking employment during the academic school semesters may be inevitable. With the raising cost of college tuition, many students are finding that federal financial aid and or student loans are not capable of covering all tuition related expenses. For those that are able to get a free ride, employment is needed to cover the cost of expensive college textbooks and a little extra spending money.

It may seem that the more hours jobs take out of the students weekly schedules, the worse students will do in their classes. Studies have shown that this is not the case at all. It has been observed through several studies that students who are employed do as well and in some cases better than those who are not working jobs. The same studies found that grades tend to improve the more hours a student works during a week, but the improvement levels off if one works more than 20 hours per week.

Students who are employed during schooling are not only more likely to receive better grades, but are more likely to complete a degree program than their non working peers. Also, jobs are beneficial after graduation. When an employment position comes down to several candidates with the same educational qualifications, employers are more inclined to hire the graduate who has work place experience. Having a job while attending college shows the potential employer that you are able to manage your time, stay organized, work hard, and multi-task.

Even if their jobs are unrelated to the students career path, they will still develop work related competencies and many work place skills that are transferable to any career sector.

Making the decision to work toward a college degree may be the most important step in securing a bright future. Working, while attending college, may also be a step in the right direction. Remember whether its building good resumes, creating lists of good references, or learning important time management skills, student jobs are not only a source of money, but may be the main factor in getting great jobs after graduation.

Paying the Rising Costs of College Tuition

Author: Tyra Smith

As the price to attend college continues to go up, many well qualified students feel left behind and perhaps abandoned by these high prices. Getting a loan has become increasingly more and more difficult as the months go by and some financial loan companies continue to experience difficulties. At times like these, it is often a good idea to take matters into your own hands and find new ways to make extra money while in school.

College tuition can be a nightmare for many students in the country. The prices never seem to stop going up and this means that too many bright, young, promising kids are left out of college for financial reasons. Making enough money for your bills, especially if you live away from home and on your own, is hard enough without the added pressure of college tuition bills. Seeking ways to alleviate the pressure is wise, as one should not let money stand in the way of a college education. Internships are readily available to many college students who exhibit the proper determination and the willingness to work hard to not only earn money, but also gain invaluable work place experience. Workplaces vary from industry to industry, but the lessons and skills one learns in such situations are often quite similar. The world runs on business and the more exposure to business practices and relationships one gets in their internship, the better off they will be. This applies not only to the job search process, but also as new grads embark on the beginning of their career, nobody likes to stumble through their job too much.

When deciding to seek out an internship to pay your college tuition bills, try to find one that allows you freedom to control the amount of income you take in. This may be through setting your own hours, doing more work or even through running your own team branching off of the company. This allows you to sit in the drivers seat more than usual and rewards you the more work you are willing to put in. Being self-sufficient in this way is always good to talk about in a job interview as well and shows the recruiter that you are a quick learner and will not constantly need direction in your work. This is a highly valued characteristic in the business world, as many people require constant monitoring. Having an employee that works well on his own when needed allows others to get their own work done without having to check up on their employees all the time.

An internship will allow you more freedom in attending college. You may not have financial freedom just yet, but many internships allow students to attend college and get the education they deserve. College tuition prices are a barrier to many qualified individuals that many fail to overcome. A college internship will help to relieve some of this burden and students will not only be given the opportunity to attend classes, but also gain real world experience in the process.

Best College Summer Jobs

Author: Jamie Cohen

Become a sperm donor. Believe it or not, you can actually make money doing what you love. Yes, It’s true, you could have been getting paid for all those years of boredom. You can also do what your man instincts want you to do…spread your seed to more people! Think of it as being with as many people as you want, with out all of them taking your money. Yeah sure, you’re not actually having sex with a woman…. but hey you’re getting paid! You could rake it roughly 5-7 thousand dollars a year for something that you have been doing for 7 years free of charge. That’s $49,000, that you could have had all along. Of course like all jobs, there are drawbacks. You need to be genetically fit in order for these sperm banks to want you. If you believe that you are smart, fit, and good looking this is probably for you. If you’re ugly and stupid… tough luck man, it’s probably better that your seed isn’t spread.

Become a bartender. If you want to meet girls and make decent coin, this is probably for you Joe College. Not only do you make good tips (in the right place), you always gain experience on Social Life 101 making drinks for good looking girls (or ugly ones). Some perks are you can sneak drinks on the job, get decent tips, and meet new and interesting people. The drawbacks of this job are if you aren’t in a good spot, you’ll make no money and serve drinks to losers, probably with mullets. Tip 1: Find a good spot, Tip 2: Get a job there, if you follow those two tips chances are you will make some money and get a couple phone numbers.

Become a lifeguard. As an experienced lifeguard for about 8 years, I can tell you, it’s pretty sweet. Most of the time I would hang around, doing nothing, eat French fries, and work on my tan. If you are in a good place, you will probably meet good looking girls who hang out in bikinis all day. Not bad right? You do not want to work in an apartment complex, and or a retirement community… unless you’re into that. You need a lifeguard certification for that, which is easy to get, go check out your local YMCA. The perks are good looking girls, decent hours, and a laid back atmosphere. The downsides are it may get boring, and the pay will suck.

If you are hanging out at school for the summer, be sure to check out all jobs on your campus. Find the most laid back easy going one of them all. I use to work at a student lab, and let me tell you, it was one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. The pay isn’t bad, for the work you will be doing. Chances are you will sit back on the internet listen to some tunes and finish some work. These are some of the best jobs I could think of. I hope this helps you in your journey to find the best summer college jobs.

If you are a new writer, or even if you are a seasoned writer who is looking for new markets, it can be helpful to identify the websites that will pay for your writing. While these websites vary in the amount that they pay and the way that they determine how much they will pay for writing, they do have some things in common. Understanding how these sites work, exactly, can help you to make the most for your writing.

Here are some of the websites that pay for writing:

* Helium. While you may be reading this article on Helium, you may not yet know that you can make money on Helium. There are a variety of ways that Helium will pay for your writing. There are contests, the marketplace and other promotions, as well as pay-for-performance payments that can continue for many months or even years after you post the article. Helium is probably the most diverse of all of the websites that pay for writing, in that there are so many different ways you can make money on Helium.

* EHow. This website pays you for writing a “how-to” article. EHow lets the writer put in their article in a “steps” format. In other words, writing at eHow involves writing step by step instructions. EHow pays writers based on the performance of the article, sharing revenue with the writer.

* Associated Content. Associated content pays for writing in a couple of different ways. For some topics, they will pay a small fee up front (usually around $1.50.) For other topics, they will only pay based on performance. Unlike Helium, Associated Content pays based on the number of page views that an article gets, rather than sharing revenue with the writer directly.

* Constant Content. Constant Content is more of a broker than it is an article repository. Essentially, you can browse through the various article requests at Constant, and then write articles to fill those requests. You then get paid if the article is accepted.

There are many other websites that will pay for writing. These are merely several of the most popular ones. In addition, there are many web sites such as scriptlance and elance where you can find clients who will pay for writing, as well.

Video Game Testing – Become A Video Game Tester In 5 Simple Steps
Author: Sean Saunders

Step One: Be Proactive!

You won’t land any video game tester jobs if you just sit around and wait for a “Game Testers Wanted” ad to appear in the paper. It won’t happen. So instead of sitting back and waiting for a miracle to occur, just get out there and find the perfect video game testing job for you.

Head straight to the game companies and developers and apply for testing jobs. Since they aren’t looking for you, the only logical step is to actively search for them. Once you find them (which shouldn’t take too long), apply for a game tester position with them and then repeat the process for as many different companies as humanly possible.

On your application/resume, brag about all of your video game achievements, such as the consoles you own, the games you’ve played, the games you own, the MMORPGs you are apart of, and anything else that shows how much experience you have with video games. And if you want to help your cause even further, create a website/blog that talks about video games, gives reviews, previews, cheats, hints, tips, etc.

You have to remember that experience and professionalism count for a lot in this industry. Therefore, the more experience you have and the more professional you are, the better your chances are for getting a video game tester job.

Step Two: Step Out of Fairy Tale Land and Into Reality

You have to realize that video game testing is a job. Yes, it’s a really fun job, but it is still a job nonetheless. This means that you have to treat it as such and take every part of it seriously. Don’t merely sit down and play the game to have a good time. Sit down and play the game so that you can collect a paycheck when you’re through.

Many “wanna-be” testers believe that being a professional video game tester is a “no work, all play” type of career. Honestly, they couldn’t be more wrong. Although there aren’t huge amounts of work that a game tester must wade through, there are still a few things that he/she has to complete. For instance, filling out reports. Surprised? Well, most aspiring young testers are when they hear that there is actual work involved with video game testing.

Contrary to what you may have thought, you won’t be simply playing games and giving your opinion on whether they are good or not. You will actually be testing them. You will play through a game, find any bugs or glitches, and then fill out reports on any problems that you come across. This is to help the developers and programmers locate and fix those problems. You don’t have to be an English professor or a college graduate to write bug reports, but you will have to have basic writing skills. Aside from the reports, you will also be required to fill out numerous questionnaires; which are typically opinion based.

As soon as you accept the fact that you’ll be doing actual work as a video game tester, you will have much more success finding testing jobs.

Where to Find Online Jobs For College Students
By J. R. Thompson

Most college students find themselves working part-time to pay for expenses such as books, lab fees, meals, and everyday expenses. Traditionally, the best jobs have been either on-campus jobs such as tutoring and helping out others, or working off-campus at restaurants and other establishments. The problem with off-campus jobs is they are typically evening and weekend jobs, and pretty labor intensive, which leaves you very tired.

What if you could work at home (or in your dorm), work your own hours, and make just as much or more money? Well heck yea! That sounds good doesn’t it! A lot of students these days turn to the internet for a way to make a few extra dollars, however there is SOOO much HYPE out there it’s hard to determine what’s legitimate and what’s a scam. The fact is that most are SCAMS, or ridiculously expensive to get into, and not very practical.

So where do you find online jobs for college students that are practical?

First, let’s realize that any viable online job will require some effort on your part, and there is no such thing as something for nothing. You are not going to “get rich quick”. If you see something that says you will make gobs of cash overnight, don’t fall for it. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Here is a list of practical online jobs where you can make some real money, listed in order of income potential.

#1 – Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is great from the standpoint that you can start in this business for next to nothing (You need an internet connection and a computer), and the income potential is only limited by YOU. What you need to succeed in this business is a good work ethic, a plan, and a little Internet Marketing training. You can find a plan, FREE training, and all the resources you will need at the bottom of this page, but you will need to supply the desire to succeed. You can easily find yourself generating plenty of extra cash, and a way to pay off those student loans as well!

#2 – Writing Articles

Articles are in high demand on the internet, and there are plenty companies and marketers that will pay you for quality articles. We are talking 300-500 word articles in most cases. You can find business in forums, online ads, and places like AssociatedContent.com and Elance.com. Top writers make upwards of $5000/month, but keep in mind they’ve been doing it awhile. If you can write quality articles and you are consistent you can probably pull in $1000-$2000 per month after you get going in it.

#3 – Paid Surveys

Yes, you can make money doing online surveys. No, it’s not going to make you rich. Finding the right survey companies and participating in focus groups is the key. You will find a lot of products that claim to have the best resources for finding quality survey companies, but it’s been my experience that you can pretty much find them on your own by doing some research online. Check out forums and blogs related to paid surveys. You can probably pull in $1000/month if you do your homework and at least 3-5 surveys a day.

Conclusion

My personal recommendation out of the list above is #1. The reason being, that you can put in the same amount of work as #2 and #3 and have residual income flowing in from your work. It’s working smart in my opinion. Additionally, the income you can make is virtually unlimited. You can start small, get some cash flowing, and then start generating multiple streams of income.

No matter what your decision, good luck, and I applaud your hard work getting a higher education. Knowledge is power!
